Poq App Transfer Guide

In some scenarios, you may already have existing apps that you want to replace with your Poq apps. This means that your existing users will have a much easier way to find your new app once it’s ready.

The following FAQs should help you understand what needs to happen.

Note: The migration from the existing app to the new app usually entails other tasks such as building, deploying, and testing your new app before you can transfer it.

I Have An iOS/Android App Already Live With Another Developer Account, How Can I Transfer This To Poq?

In order to do this, you need to have access to the developer account related to your existing app.

  1. Identify the original developer account holder (e.g. a third party agency or in-house developer).
  2. Identify the person holding permissions to request the transfer - this will be the Team Agent on iTunes Connect & Account Owner on Google Play. Ensure they have the appropriate access to the App Stores in case the original developer holds the credentials or if anyone has left the organisation.

Note: Once the transfer has been completed, remove any old users who do not require access (i.e. the original developer profile).

Then, please refer to the appropriate guide for your scenario:

Before Google can transfer apps from your original account to a different account, known as your target account, both Google Play Developer accounts need to be fully registered and active. Note: You need to pay the £25.00 registration fee for both accounts. After the transfer is complete, if you want to close your original account, the Google team can refund its registration fee.

Will My App Ratings And Reviews Be Deleted?

iOS Android
The app retains its reviews and ratings during and after the transfer. Users will continue to have access to future updates (ratings and review can be reset at any time). When you transfer apps to a different account, your app’s users, download statistics, ratings and reviews, content ratings, and store listing information are all transferred to your new account.

Do Current Users Need To Do Anything?

No, there will be no actions or changes for them, only to update the app to the new one published by us, as soon as is ready.

When Poq Releases The New App, How Can I Minimise Impact For Existing Customers On The Old App?

As not all customers enable automatic updates on their device, there are no guarantees customers will automatically upgrade to the new version. Usually, we find adoption to the latest version reaches around 80% two weeks after release. But in the meantime, it’s important to message the change to them as clearly as possible. If you also have customers who subscribe directly through you, you will be likely to have contact details for them.

For these customers, we recommend:

  1. Putting messaging in the current app’s content itself approaching the switch to tell users about the change;
  2. If there are push notification capabilities in the existing version, use these to alert users and deep link them into the app store to download the new app;
  3. If possible, have an overlap. When the new Poq app is available, ensure that the old version still functions for a time, so that you can direct users straight to the new version in the app store from the old app version e.g. by using a home screen banner.
